Draw Time Workshop – March 22 – 24, 2019
Do you find yourself in a spinning rut and would like to change it up? Do you want to refine your drafting techniques? Have you looked at those YouTube videos and wondered exactly what they meant by from the fold or point of contact spinning? Then this workshop is definitely for you.
Master Spinner and former Olds College Programme instructor Gayle Vallance will be on Salt Spring this Spring Break for a three day workshop at the Lion’s Club to demystify all the various drafting methods modern day spinners have to hand.
We will learn how the draws below give us a different yarn:
– Worsted draw – short forward and short backward
– Woollen draw – long draw, unsupported long draw, point of contact, from the fold.
We will learn how to make our yarns repeatable, ie how to take some measurements so the future us will actually know what we did to make that great yarn way back when.
We will discuss and sample how to suit the fibre, the drafting technique to the type of yarn we want for a particular purpose.
We will have lots of fun……..
