Move to SIMS Update

We did it! Thanks to the hard work of a few special people, the Guild has made a move into new space in SIMS (Saltspring Island Multipurpose Space, formerly the Middle School). The process involved clearing out the storage room at ArtSpring, which included our library, and finding many things we never knew we had until they emerged from the depth of shelves and cupboards which had been largely inaccessible given the cramped space. 5 Star Movers transported the looms and other heavier equipment from Sandra’s studio along with heavy boxes of books, some of which were delivered through the guild room window. Many thanks to all who helped, and to Sandra for the generous use of her space over the last few years.

There are now 43 active members of the guild who are throwing themselves enthusiastically into various activity groups including weaving and spinning, tapestry, and rug weaving with further plans for a knitting and felting group later in the year. Our first, beginner Weavers course is scheduled for later this week. A fleece washing workshop is in the works for July and will be followed by classes in fleece preparation for spinning. Members are opening up their farms for visits to watch shearing activities and to also learn about commercial yarn production, and to introduce folks to the source of good, local fibre.

Anyone interested in guild activities can check the calendar on this website. We welcome you as a visitor and know we will get you ‘hooked’ into the fibre arts in all its many forms.
