The Weavers and Spinners are on the Move!

After 50 years on the island, Salt Spring Island Weavers and Spinners Guild has found a ‘forever’ home and has moved to the SIMS building (Saltspring Island Multi Space in the old Island Middle School). With the help of a grant from CRD for some furnishings, and the hard work of a core team of members, our friends at 5 Star Moving have transferred boxes of books, heavy looms and other supplies and equipment from our storeroom at ArtSpring, and from a private studio which, thanks to the generosity of Sandra Hodgins, has served as temporary space since 2014.

The new guild room will continue to offer opportunities for the teaching of weaving, spinning and other fibre related activities as we re-establish our presence in the community following the long hibernation created by Covid. In the past, membership in the guild has helped forge many lasting friendships as well as the sharing of weaving and spinning skills and techniques. We are ready to continue to pass these gifts on.

Annual Guild membership fee is $110 and provides access to the new guild space, our library, and for the mentoring of new members by folks with many talents in everything fibre. We will be offering classes in weaving and spinning for adults and children and will be running programs throughout the summer. If you have summer visitors who want to learn to weave or spin, our programs are posted on the website. Or do you want to learn how to clean and process fleece and other fibres in preparation for spinning, enjoy the company of creativity fibre artist or enhance some latent fibre skills, then you can contact us through our website.

And, watch for the announcement for our open house early in July.
